A lactation counsellor is there to support mothers in breastfeeding. The training includes 52 hours of clinical education, including the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, normal breastfeeding, breast and nipple issues, breastfeeding management issues, breastfeeding problems and solutions. An exam needs to be passed.

A Lactation counsellor is bound by the CLC code of Professional conduct.

A Lactation counsellor is required to re-register every 3 years. This ensures that they are up to date in their practice and education
